Deze discussie is simpelweg het gevolg van een verkeerde keuze van bronnen. Hoeveel respect zowel Quelerie als De Lange als kunstenaar ook verdienen, zij zijn geen historische bron. Een historische bron dateert uit de tijd dat deze schepen daadwerkelijk voeren, en staat in geen enkele verhouding tot wat een kunstenaar er tegenwoordig van maakt. Zoek in plaats hiervan bij ooggetuigen zoals Van de Velde, Nooms , Backhuysen, etc.

I agree that the bron is not a historical entity, but if you look at Jan de Quelery's page it is quite obvious that he goes to great lengths to depict exactly what we know (according to our reputable resources). His portrayals of Texel, Solebay, Schooneveld, De Raid on Medway strook alles met wat ons weet en ervaar. Dus dink ik darem noouw nie hy so n schip versin het nie.
Ewenwel - ons gaan voort met die Haarlem.
Nou is dit tyd vir die verschansing van die fortuining aan die bakboordkant.
Eerste deel geplaas en afgeschuur. Dis net sawdust wat daar le - darem nie n vuil dek nie.
En so kom die verschansing ook klaar aan die bakboordkant.
Die verdek se railing was volgende. Omdat ek nie enige powertools het nie, word elkeen van die sparretjies met n X-Acto mes gesnij en daarna bijgevijl om seker te maak dat alles gelijk loop. Dit gaan natuurlik saam met n heel paar wat in die slag bly.
And while we wait for the glue to dry, the opportunity of catching the late afternoon "sun" from the Nantong "tronk"
En dan is die railing ook geplaas.
Dis nou n exercise wat truuks met mens se brein speel, want uit partij hoeke lijk die sparretjes scheef - net om wee uiyt n ander hoek reg te lijk.
Dit is natuuyrlik die tweede poging nadat Admiraal Anna weer iets te zeg gehad het! 
En zo gaat ons voort!

Da’s nu precies waar ik soms ook last van heb bij The Lee
. Maar ik denk dat elke bouwer dat wel eens heeft .Om nog maar niet te spreken over macro-opnames
.Maar vooral: blijven luisteren naar De Admiraal Anna!

Maar dit is nouw wat dit is. Die Admiraal het nog nie die tweede poging gesien nie - so ek wag in spanning vir wanneer sy huis toe kom!

Last night I got busy with the rest of the verschansing and before I knew it, I had worked through the night (like in the old days!) This sure felt good and this morning the top railing was done.
Looking at this picture, I realised that one can't see very much, but before taking some "nicer" and clearer pictures (by my mediocre photographic standards), it was first time to do something that I was not looking forward to ...
... cut off these terrible-looking overhangs.
After the fortuining had been trimmed level with the spiegel, some serious touching-up is required. This is because of the overlapping, schotelende-effek of laying the planks that does not allow for a straight-line cut. This is no big deal as the final painting will be air-brushed in any case. Of course it remains to be seen whether my Chinese paint supplier will be able to supply me with the actual paint (not of the spray-can variety).
The starboard side did not seem to have taken such a severe beating.
The cleaned-up bow section (minus overhangs) is clearly visible here, but will require a substantial amount of finishing work before I'm happy.
