Cozy F1 T800 - houtbouw F1 tunnel

The outboard will be a custom build with flexas.

Actually with a custom build outboard you will save a large amount of money so as to buy your electronics.
I believe that you could save about 250 € assuming that you would buy a MHZ 1/5 outboard which costs about 350€.

Yes, I know the MHZ unit and it certainly looks nice. But I read about some issues regarding the gears. That's why I want a flex shaft.
Below €350,- should definitely be possible. However, parts prices went up a lot lately.
I might start the CAD design of an XL electric outboard. I will keep you guys updated if there's any news [emoji41]

I the meantime I will enjoy my T800!

Indeed Michael, @Returntohome has done some excellent work with high degree of realism.

But, as @Dirk Jan said and I ve read myself from various sources, gears seem to be more vulnerable to wear compared to a flex shaft especially in high rpms.

Offshoreelectrics.com also categorizes the outboards into a) scale outboards with gears and b) racing outboards with flex shafts, implying that flex shaft outboards are more suitable for racing (and higher rpms probably). Although this does not necessarily mean that offshoreelectrics.com is right ex ante, it gives you a hint of what approach is more suitable for your project.

I totally agree about the geared / flex shaft outboard drive application. I have never seen a geared outboard behind a competitive racing hull.
Not that I'm building such a hull with the Bernico.. but a geared outboard is too much hassle for me at the moment, to build myself.

Excellent sailing... Only 4 kmh for the 100 kmh barrier but officially in the 60 mph club. Well done Jan!!!
First time with an 1.6 pitch prop I think. New spot?

Thanks [emoji106] Yes, close to the 100 km/h. I guess with a higher performance lipo, I could crack it.
But.. as Eric mentioned before, the higher the speeds, the bigger the crashes.
I check the hull carefully after each crash and I notice a very light paint crack at one of the sponson bottoms. I will strip the paint to check the actual damage.
What's worse is that I destroyed 2 steering servos already. The impact after a flip destroys the gears. I'm missing a servo saver here, just like rc cars have.

I might go down a little on the setup. Keeping the boat on the water saves money!
On the other side, the 120A esc and 3674 motor are holding up great, even with the aggressive props and warmer water temps.

This is the same spot as previous videos. Just from another shore angle [emoji3]

This is indicative of the impact power at high speeds. Metal gear servos I guess. I have very cheap (12 €) Chinese 35 kg servos and until now I am very happy (of course not tested at 100 kmh crash).

Have you ever noticed similar cracks to your small Cosy that is constructed similarly? I say that because you may be right and possibly 80 kmh might be the speed limit to keep the hull safe.

The T800 is built stronger. Thicker wood, more ribs and stringers and thicker laminate.
It also weighs 2x more than the Cozy F1.
I guess the maximum speed is not easily linked to the build quality.
It really depends on how unfortunate you crash the hull.
For extreme strength, a carbon (kevlar) hull would definitely be best.

Suberp!! I d always loved construction presentation videos. They are very intuitive. I think I could make one for my outboard. ;)

Toch even een lipo leeg gevaren.

Nice pond, nice boats and it seems well organized !
I am so sorry for your cowl. It is hard when you ve spent hours for making it. The trickiest part would be the painting. Is it necessary to strip off the whole paint work and the decals?
Next time you ll probably take with you the deep v wild thing which is capable of dealing with tougher water;)!

@Dim: the damage is very unfortunate indeed, but it could have been worse. I am thinking now to make a somewhat quick fix, without totally repainting the cowl. Just fixing locally with some carbon weave and paint. It will not be as clean as a total repaint, but I foresee another crash in the future [emoji28] and I prefer to keep the boat on the water instead of keeping it spotless.

Also, I will continue my Wild Thing build, so I have to spend my time wisely [emoji3]. A mono is definitely better at rougher water and wind. I could clearly see that yesterday.

I hope to join the next event in April, with my F1 Tunnels and Wild Thing [emoji106]
